HISTORY OF MILLS WELL SERVICE

Joe & Roger Mills 1949

Mills Well Service, Inc. provides high quality well services in the state of Oklahoma. Operating out of Seminole and Lindsay, Roger M. Mills is the son of the man that started this still thriving company 78 years ago.

Founded by WWII veteran Joe Marshall Mills who had initial plans of going into business with his brother Roger. Both held degrees in civil engineering and both bravely served in the war together, however Joe’s plans changed when Roger did not return. Captain Roger L. Mills was one of nearly 100,000 brave Soldiers that perished during World War II’s battle Ardennes Offensive, commonly known as “The Battle Of The Bulge”. This was the largest battle ever fought by the United States Army.

Seminole was booming with oil and at the time Joe's uncle Frank Newsom was an established oil man. With connections to some of the industries largest companies, Joe and Frank decided to enter on the service side of the business. In 1946 the duo opened as Newsom Mills Drilling Company and for the next decade they provided cable tool rigs for major oil companies in Central Oklahoma.

By 1955 Newsom Mills prospered acquiring six Cardwell spudders and a Walker-neer. The industry was evolving rapidly and competition was stiff. In 1956 Joe became the first contractor to provide hydraulic tubing tongs, a decision that assisted him in buying Newsom's portion of the company. In 1957 he changed the company's name to Joe Mills Well Service embarking a journey that would last the next 78 years.

The 1960's proved to be one of the most difficult times for the industry. Work slowed due to price drop caused by imported oil forcing most of his competitors out of business. This didn't deter Joe. He kept building despite the hit on the industry and hired desirable rig crews from the perished businesses.
In 1970 business rebounded and well servicing technology and equipment improved. The company purchased much faster derrick type rigs that could hang rods in triples and stand tubing in doubles. Joe gained another asset in the 70's when his son Roger joined the company. Joe Mills Well Service was now the family business he had long aspired to have.
The 1980’s brought even more growth to the company. Joe had a motto he always followed. He never wanted to become a BIG contractor, only the best.

Sadly in 1990 Joe Marshall Mills passed away and his son Roger took over the company continuing his fathers legacy. Since Roger took over he changed the name to Mills Well Service, Inc. He purchased his own mobile rig fleet, expanded business serving the entire state of Oklahoma, and opened a second location in Lindsay. Like his father Roger knows his employees are his greatest asset. The crew hands at Mills Well Service, Inc. are some of the most experienced in the industry, and the company continues to have a positive financial impact on the town making it a desired place of employment.
Today Joe’s legacy lives on. Roger has dedicated much of his career ensuring that Mills Well Service, Inc. is a company name that can be trusted. The qualities and traits Joe taught his son have built a reputation that continue to exceed client expectations. Mills Well Service, Inc. have seventy plus years proving that when it comes to well servicing this is the company to call.
